Welcome to benrawlings.co.uk, the online home of my military aviation history writing and photography. Growing up in East Anglia it is hard to detach day to day life with the events of the past, where even the weekly shop is done in a little village that was the site of a Ninth Air Force B-26 base. Being surrounded by this history and spending my youth at airshows, museums and special events has instilled in me the passion to share this history with as many as I can. One of my most cherished and inspirational memories was getting to meet the Fleet Air Arm, Telegraphist Air Gunner Les Sayer as a child. Listening to Les recount his experiences attacking the German battleship Bismarck and escaping the sinking carrier HMS Ark Royal captured my young mind and it is stories like his, and the untold many that I want to shed light on and tell. I also want to highlight the current men and women who serve and document their experiences. I have written several articles for the RAF 100 anniversary celebrations and had my photographs included in international magazines. I look forward to growing my portfolio of work in the future.
